Email from PayPal regarding closing our PayPal business account
Here is the email we received from PayPal about them closing our PayPal Business Account.
It says a review of our account activity. Yet, we haven't sold any of our tobacco items in many months and even when we did, no detail of the sale was sent to PayPal. The last sale was to a theatre company for use as props in a theatre production.
".... goods or products that facilitate the sale of tobacco using PayPal, as the underlying good" ?? not exactly sure what this really means.
Notice that it does not offer the option of removing the tobacco, only removing PayPal.
Click here for more about this and other problems we have had with PayPal.
Dear Terry Leavey,
The PayPal User Agreement states that PayPal, at its sole discretion,
reserves the right to close an account for any violation of the User
Agreement, including the Acceptable Use Policy. Under the Acceptable Use
Policy, PayPal may not be used to purchase or sell tobacco, including
cigarettes, cigars, and smokeless tobacco, due to the many difficulties
inherent in assuring that tobacco sales comply with applicable laws.
Furthermore, you may not engage in the sale of goods or products that
facilitate the sale of tobacco using PayPal, as the underlying good is
prohibited. The complete Acceptable Use Policy addressing Tobacco can be
found at the following URL:
http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/use/index_frame-outside&ed=tobacco
We are hereby notifying you that, after a recent review of your account
activity, it has been determined that you are in violation of PayPal's
Acceptable Use Policy. Therefore, your account has been closed.
When PayPal closes an account due to an Acceptable Use Policy violation, it
is the company's policy to hold the funds for a period of 180 days. Once
the 180-day timeframe has elapsed, PayPal will release any remaining
balance either via bank transfer or issuance of a check. Please log in to
your account and update any necessary information, as PayPal cannot be held
responsible for incorrect information provided by the account holder.
You will need to remove all references to PayPal from your website(s)
and/or auction(s). This includes not only removing PayPal as a payment
option, but also the PayPal logo and/or shopping cart. We thank you in
advance for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please contact
the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy Department at
aup@paypal.com.
Sincerely,
PayPal Acceptable Use Policy Department
