This is the same belt as the Mills Cartridge Belt, except with the black leather and brass buckle as shown. It holds 45/70 (or 45/90 or other similar 45 caliber) cartridges. The belt loops on our reproduction are sewn on, not woven into belt as the originals were. There are 36 to 40 loops on the belt, depending on the size of the belt. The buckle attaches to the outside of the loop, not on the bar that the tongue attaches to. This same belt is also available with 12 gauge shotgun loops (about 25 loops). The Black Leather version is the U.S. Military version, although civilians may have also used it. This belt could be used for the M1897 Winchester Shotgun (aka: Model 97, M97 or Trench Gun). The Natural/Russet Leather version is Civilian Use ONLY and is available with canvas webbing loops sewn on in 45 caliber Rifle (45/70, 45/90, etc.) or 50 caliber rifle (50/70, 50/90, 50/110, etc.) or 12 gauge shotgun, see also the Buffalo Hunter Belt).
NOTE: Belts should be ordered by WAIST SIZE, not the size over clothing. Belts are made longer (usually 4'') to adjust for going over the coat. If you will NOT be wearing this belt over a coat, then order your belt 2 inches smaller than your waist size. |
