U.S. M1890 Army Indian Scout Dress Coat: In 1890, the recently adopted branch of INDIAN SCOUTS was given a mounted services style Dress Uniform which was to have white facings with scarlet piping. Our reproducetion features are deluxe dark blue wool. Special Chevrons adopted for non-commissioned officers were white wool with gold lace surrounded by scarlet chain stitching.

This REPRODUCTION Clothing item is Made in the USA. This a quality reproduction item made as close as is modernly possible. Sewing is done by machine to keep costs down (except where hand sewing is required) and most do not show externally. Some items offer hand sewing on exposed stitching (such as buttonholes) for an additional cost.

The 1872 and 1873 chevrons were significantly different from the Civil War period chevrons. The chevron was a piece of branch and service colored wool facing cloth with black silk chain stitch outlining the pattern. The black area on our chevrons is dark blue wool.

The M1884 Gold Bouillon dress coat chevrons are the same pattern as the M1872 chevrons, except they are made with Gold Bouillon.

In 1898 the Army authorized cotton chevrons to be used on the khaki uniform. This was so that the coat and chevrons would shrink at the same rate. These cotton chevrons are ONLY for use on the khaki coats.
