U.S. Frock Coat for Chaplains (Union)

Civil War Junior Officers Frock with Epaulets and Sash
    Per the 1861 US Army Regulations, Chaplains were authorized to wear a single breasted Officer's frockcoat made in 19 ounce BLACK WOOL and having a black cotton lining. By US Regulations the buttons are covered with black cloth also. According to US Regulations, Chaplains did not wear shoulder boards during this period.

    In 1864, the Army Uniform Board enhanced the Chaplain's Frockcoat with the addition of "herringbone" braid in black across the chest at the buttons and buttonholes.  Please refer to photo below. Note that the buttons are still black.  This coat was used by Army Chaplains until 1880.

    Both photos have been digitally lightened to show detail in the black wool of the coat.

    Although the US Army Regulations do not list shoulder boards being worn by Chaplains, there are examples of existing shoulder boards.

    Our frockcoats have raw bottom skirt edges as per most originals.

U.S. Trousers for Chaplains (Union)

U.S. Chaplain's Trousers, foot.
    Our US Chaplain's Trousers are made from our 19 ounce BLACK WOOL trousers for Chaplain's are foot style and have the split back with an adjustable cord tie. Side seam pockets are standard. As was the style, Victorian period trousers should be loose in the waist and seat area. They have a 1" higher rise than today's modern pants.

Legs are left un-hemmed so that you may hem them the length that you desire. Black metal buttons for fly and suspenders are supplied. One front suspender button on each side is standard. Two buttons per side are available, see the button choice box below.

U.S. Civil War Military Vests
    Our U.S. Chaplain's Vest is made of  has a small standing collar with three (3) pockets, while the C.S. Military Vest has a small standing collar with two (2) lower pockets. Both have a nine (9) button front and the small brass buttons are supplied. The back is adjustable by means of a belt with buckle. The back and belts are black cotton and the lining is natural muslin.

    The Chaplains vest is available either with a Stand-Up Collar or a Lay-Down Notched Collar. It is also available in deluxe wool, for an additional charge.

11/11/2020 NOTE: We are trying to get things restarted, but is taking time.
