Branch of service colors are: Artillery - Red, Cavalry - Yellow, Berdan - Green, Chaplain - Black w/Cross, Engineer - Black w/Castle, Infantry - Medium Blue, Medical - Black w/MS, Paymaster - Black w/PD, Quartermaster - Black w/QM, Signal Corps - Black w/Crossed Flags, Topo Engineer - Black w/TE, Staff, including ALL Generals - Black. Chaplain, Engineer, Medical, Paymaster, Quartermaster, Signal Corps and Topo Engineer in ranks other than Captain and Major are a custom item and can take 4 to 12 weeks for delivery. Very Fancy Shoulder Boards: these included: Double Row Border, Triple Row Border, Four Row Border and Oak Leaf Border. These are wider than the standard shoulder boards, up to 2-1/4" wide. We only offer the triple row and oak leaf border ones. These are special order shoulder boards and can take 4 to 12 weeks for delivery.

In 1885 and in 1887, color changes were made designating the Infantry and the Cavalry from the 1872 colors- See larger view. Normally only worn on the fatigue uniforms (Sack Coat and Undress Coat). But sometimes used on the Dress Frock Coat for Undress Occasions. Shoulder boards for uniforms are sold in pairs. Branch of service colors are: Artillery - Red, Cavalry - 1872-1886 Lemon Yellow / 1887-1898 Dark Yellow, Chaplain - Black w/Cross or Shepherd's Crook, Engineer - Black w/E.C., Infantry - 1872-1884 Sky Blue / 1885-1898 White, Medical - Black w/M.S., Paymaster - Black w/P.D., Quartermaster - Black w/Q.M., Signal Corps - Black w/S.S. Staff, including ALL Generals - Black. For 1855 through 1871 Shoulder boards: See Civil War Shoulder Boards. Except for 1st Lieutenant and Captain, they are the same for all branches except Cavalry from 1886 on, Infantry from 1885 on and Chaplains from 1880 on. Shoulder Boards are NOT included with coats, but are available for an additional cost. You must add these item to the cart separately. |

Junior Grade Officer epaulettes have 1/8" diameter fringe. The rank insignia on each epaulette is: 2nd Lieutenant - no rank insignia and 1st Lieutenant - 1 bar. Company Grade Officer epaulettes have 1/4" diameter fringe. The rank insignia on each epaulette is: Captain - 2 bars. Senior and General Officer epaulettes have 1/2" diameter fringe. The rank insignia on each epaulette is: Major - no rank insignia, Lieutenant Colonel - 1 silver oak leaf, Colonel - 1 Silver Eagle, Brigadier General 1 star (1.5"), Major General - 2 stars (1 - 1.5" & 1 - 1.25"), Major General Commanding/Lieutenant General 3 stars (1 - 1.5", 1 - 1.25" & 1 - 1.125" Note: We do not have the smallest star available, so you would need to use 2 - 1.25" stars.). Medical Officer epaulettes are identical to the Line Officer Epaulettes except they have the gold Wreath and silver M.S. letters in Old English embroidered in the crescent. Different diameters of fringe (and rank insignia) designated the various ranks of surgeon. Epaulettes as worn by Assistant Surgeon (Captain Rank- 1/4" fringe diameter). Two silver bars (per strap) need to be ordered to compete the rank structure. Junior Asst Surgeon (First Lieutenant) with 1/8" fringe diameter is also available (one pair of silver bars should be ordered). Regimental Surgeon (rank of Major) has the 1/2" diameter fringe but is without other rank insignia. Brigade Surgeon uses the same Epaulettes but order with the Silver Oak Leaf insignia. Medical Officer Epaulettes are custom order and take 8 to 10 weeks to deliver. Please allow sufficient time when ordering. Epaulettes are NOT included with coats, but are available for an additional cost. You must add this item to the cart separately. A Deluxe Storage Box is available to keep your Epaulets in good condition when not in use. Deluxe Box is made of heavy paste board and covered with black leather and lined with white cotton. Due to limited quantities, we can only offer the storage boxes to customers of our Epaulets. (Imported) Custom made item, please allow UP TO 10 - 14 weeks for delivery. Comes with Branch Color Background and Rank Insignia. Regimental Numbers or Staff Department can be added for an additional charge. Engineer Corps "E.C.", Medical "M.D.", Ordnance Dept "O.D.", Pay Department "P.D.", Signal Service "S.S." are all STAFF, with a Black Background and NO Regimental Number. The 1st Lieutenant, Capt and Major of the 7th Cavalry are shown and are normally, but not always, stocked by my supplier and take 2 to 3 weeks. Epaulets are NOT included with coats whether shown with the coat or not, but are available for an additional cost. You must add this item to the cart separately. |

for an additional price. A rush order reduces the manufacturing time from 8 - 10 weeks to 4 - 5
